Updated France Fixtures for 2008/2009

17 07 2008

Hello all,

Hope you’ve all found a way to enjoy the summer :)

I’ve just updated the fixtures section  of the site so check it out!

Fixtures/Results

First rendez-vous vs Sweden, 20th of August, should be VERY interesting.

Concerning our group in WC qualyfing we’ve been dealt a very good draw. I don’t mean in terms of the teams we have to play (though it’s definitely nice to not have another “big” team in there), but rather in the order we’re playing teams.

We open vs Austria, which is a good game, and it’s away so there will be a bit of extra pressure (useful for feeling like we have to get off to a good start), but seeing as we should handle them despite their youthful optimism, I think it’s a good way to start things off. We do have to play Serbia and Romania back to back, but our home and away back to back series is vs Lithuania. Much rather have that scenario than playing back to back vs Serbia or Romania. We then get to play the Faroes twice in the second half of qualifying. And we finish vs the Faroes and Austria, both at home. None of this “away to Ukraine” type finishing! Hopefully this will set us up nicely.

(Notice my optimism there? I’m done thinking negatively about this team. It’s all positivity from now until we start playing. Then we’ll see.)

Domenech remains France coach

4 07 2008

Days of speculation ended yesterday after a closed door meeting was held between the 18 FFF board members and Domenech. During the meeting, board members quizzed Domenech on some of his questionable choices and tactics for the Euros. It was reported that Doms owned up to a number of mistakes.

Then, in a vote of confidence, all 18 members present (Platini was absent) voted in favour of Doms being retained. A bit surprising perhaps…are they just realistic or vastly out of touch with reality? Read the rest of this entry »
